So, I haven't actually ever done a proper post. And I don't even know if anyone actually reads this butI thought I would post an Australian-American dictionary cheat-sheet that conveys some of the intricacies of the Australian vernacular.
doona: quilt
beetroot: put on everything, from salads to burgers
yonks: ages
shonky: sketchy
westie: redneck
bogan: westie
schooner: half pint
wog: Italian, or Greek or Lebanese heritage Australian
daggy: poorly dressed, ugly, shoddy, frumpy
"no worries": prevailing Australian attitude. (see: you're welcome)
vegemite: yeast extract spread (mmmm yummy on toast)
sultana: raison
jumper: sweater
bickie: biscuit (see: cookie)
tea: any form of meal
devonshire tea: scones with cream and jam, and tea
manchester: bed linens
sheilah: familiar for "girl"
fosters: beer never consumed on the continent; reserved for ignorant tourists
bob's your uncle: "there you have it"
skippy: australian male (after skippy the bush kangaroo)
journo: journalist
muso: musician
steveo: steve (you get the idea, Australians abbrev. EVERYTHING
