Diarios de moto

Saw Motorcycle Diaries, the story of Ernesto "Che" Guevara.. a love song to his South America... beautiful beautiful culture, breath-taking landscape, and a impetus for Che's quest for social and political justice. Highly recommended.

Quote that gave me pause:

"What do we leave behind when we cross each frontier? Each moment seems split in two; melancholy for what was left behind and the excitement of entering a new land. "
--Ernesto Guevara de la Serna

I thought it was a pretty good movie, but I'm not a huge Che fan. The champion of social justice also brought a swift hand down on dissidents.

I can't see these words coming out of the mouth of the guy in the movie:

"Hatred as an element of struggle; unbending hatred for the enemy, which pushes a human being beyond his natural limitations, making him into an effective, violent, selective, and cold-blooded killing machine. This is what our soldiers must become"

interesting...

he did lead his social revolution through violence and coersion (which ofcourse i would never condone)

i guess that is what happens when a lone individual becomes a moral arbiter and sole ethical compass... power unchecked (even with the best of intentions) can become infinitely corrupt....
